The Economic Policy Institute is pleased to welcome Robert Kuttner, co-editor of The American Prospect and one of EPI’s founders, to present his new book The Stakes: 2020 and the Survival of American Democracy

In the book, Kuttner makes the case that Democrats should not only fight to beat Donald Trump but also run on a progressive pocketbook agenda in the 2020 presidential campaign—because that’s the only way to bridge divisions of race and identity, and reclaim the economic narrative from Republicans and Wall Street Democrats bent on deregulating the economy, rigging rules for the wealthy, and decimating already weak protections for workers and consumers.

“A progressive appeal and a progressive candidate are needed, both to beat Trump and to reclaim America,” argues Kuttner. “More corporate centrism won’t accomplish either.”

EPI President Thea Lee will introduce Kuttner and moderate the discussion that follows, which will include time for questions from the audience.
