Dear First Star Friends,

Every young person deserves someone in their corner, someone who believes in what they can become and helps them get there. For young people navigating foster care, that kind of support can change the trajectory of a life.

That’s what we’re celebrating on Tuesday, October 27 at our 2026 First Star Celebration at MountainGate Country Club in Los Angeles.

This year, we’re honoring California leaders who are helping make those possibilities real, people and institutions who are stepping up to create stronger pathways to college, careers, and lasting opportunity for young people with foster care experience.

Among this year’s honorees are Monroe Gorden Jr., UCLA Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and Chancellor S. Jack Hu of UC Riverside, among others.

Their leadership reflects what is possible when California’s universities and communities come together and say: these young people matter, their futures matter, and we are going to invest in them.

We want you in the room. ([link removed])

Come celebrate our scholars and alumni, hear about the work happening across California, and spend an evening with the people who are helping First Star build something bigger for young people in foster care.

And if you can’t attend, you can still help make the Celebration and First Star’s work possible with a contribution.

We hope you’ll join us, and help us celebrate the California leaders who are helping change what’s possible.

With gratitude,
