Supporter,
As life has changed over the past few months, many of us have found a renewed appreciation for spending time outdoors. Being in nature is a powerful healer that benefits not only our mental and physical health but also the health of our society.
But even in a non-COVID-19 world, not everyone has access to the transformative power of the outdoors. And with social distancing recommendations in place and wildfires affecting much of the west coast, the ways that we safely interact with nature are ever-changing.
So, we’re introducing

The Outdoors Effect , a new way to celebrate nature and support programs that make the outdoors more accessible for everyone. From September 13-27, we’ll come together to celebrate nature in whatever way works for each of us, and we’ll raise money to support Sierra Club’s

Outdoors for All program. Here’s how it works:
1.

Sign up and customize your Team Sierra page.
You’ll share this page with your network to show them the cool ways you’re getting outdoors and collect any donations.
2. Set your goals.
The CDC recommends 60 minutes per day of physical/outdoor activity for children* and 150-300 minutes per week for adults. You can set your total minute goal when you’re signed into your page and log your activity each day! Collectively, we’re aiming to raise $1400 ($100 a day) as a group, but you can set a personal fundraising goal, too!
3. Have fun and get creative!
Find new ways and old favorite activities that help you connect with nature while staying safe and socially distant. Do some gardening, go for a hike, build a kite out of objects around the house and see if you can get some air, or adopt a houseplant from a neighbor who is moving. You can add your own activities when you log them on your site, and we can’t wait to see how creative you can get!
4. Share your page with (at least) 1 friend or family member per day.
Let your communities know all of the cool ways you’re connecting with nature. Invite them to join you in The Outdoors Effect or ask for a donation to Sierra Club to support making nature more accessible to everyone.
For two weeks, we’re excited to come together from all corners of the country to connect with nature. The money raised through The Outdoors Effect will support initiatives that help remove the barriers that make accessing and enjoying the outdoors difficult for so many communities.
Thanks for joining us!

disproportionately harm Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people and other communities of color. The pandemic has revealed how the communities hardest hit are often the same communities that suffer from high levels of pollution and poor access to healthcare. The fight for environmental justice cannot be separated from the fight for racial justice.
