Friend,
I want to tell you about a plan taking shape in Washington, because it would hit nearly every working person in North Dakota.
Some of the most powerful Republicans in Congress have decided the way to "fix" Social Security is to raise the retirement age. One block of House Republicans wants to push it to 69. A sitting senator wants 70.
It is a benefit cut, plain and simple. Raising the retirement age means you work more years and collect less, for a program you have paid into out of every single paycheck of your life.
At a recent event, Julie Fedorchak expressed her willingness to put raising the retirement age on the table. In Congress, I would never support this insanity.
So I’m asking you to chip in $3 today to help me defeat her. [ [link removed] ]
Think about who this would hit hardest. Not the folks in Washington with desk jobs and taxpayer-funded pensions. It hits the people I have spent my life beside.
The farmer. The roughneck. The railroader. The nurse on her feet for twelve hours a day. You cannot work an oil rig at 69. For the North Dakotans who have done hard physical labor their whole lives, raising the retirement age is not an inconvenience. It is being told to work until your body gives out. To work until you die.
Here is the truth Julie will not say out loud. Social Security is not broke, and it is not a handout. You earned it, paycheck by paycheck. And there are honest ways to keep it strong for the long haul, starting with asking the wealthiest Americans to pay into it the same way the rest of us do on every dollar we make.
Julie talks about wanting to "reform" these programs. I am not interested in any so-called reform that means working longer for less. I will never vote to raise the retirement age. Not to 69, not to 70, not at all. That is a promise.
I know how to solve a problem without asking working people to pay for it with the last good years of their lives. That is the whole difference in this race.
If you believe you should not have to work until you die to collect the Social Security you earned, chip in $3 today to send me to Congress. [ [link removed] ]
