Hi John xxxxxx,
Two male Senators, Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona) and Roger Marshall (R-Kansas), have introduced legislation called the “State of Men’s Health Act” to establish the first-ever “Office of Men’s Health.”
It’s notable that when it comes to expanding federal rights and resources for men, our leaders can enjoy bipartisan support. We wish we could say the same for laws simply protecting women’s bodily autonomy.
This proposed “Office of Men’s Health” bill comes as women have been excluded from clinical research for centuries. Medical research treated men as the default and often excluded women. That led to real consequences: women’s heart attacks are more likely to be missed, medications are still dosed incorrectly, women experience more side effects from medicine or surgeries, pain is more likely to be undertreated or dismissed, and conditions that primarily affect women, like endometriosis and autoimmune diseases, are understudied.
The gap between women's and men’s healthcare is enormous – and male lawmakers are working on projects that will make it even wider. This is why we need more women in government AT ALL LEVELS. Join Her Bold Move as we work to elect more women to offices across America by chipping in $5 or more today. → [link removed]
Ron Henry, the President of the Men’s Health Network, stated in a press release on the Office of Men’s Health that “existing Federal offices of women’s health have done important work to enhance the lifespans and quality of life for women. We look at the advances in women’s longevity not in competition but in admiration.”
It’s easy to not feel competitive when you’re the President of the MEN’S HEALTH NETWORK, isn’t it?
To this day, research in women’s health remains woefully underfunded. The gap is astonishing: Only 1% of global healthcare research and development funding outside of cancer goes to female-specific conditions – meaning everything from endometriosis to menopause is left under-researched. 80% of people with autoimmune diseases are female, and we still don’t know why. And, according to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2 out of 3 Alzheimer’s patients are women, yet only 12% of funding for the disease goes to women-focused studies. We could go on and on.
To be clear: We believe that everyone – regardless of gender – deserves access to better and more accessible healthcare. But we do not support half of the population becoming an afterthought.
We need more people in our government who understand an “Office of Men’s Health” diverts attention and resources from the enormous research debt medicine still owes women. This news story underscores the desperate need for MORE WOMEN in government who will work on expanding the medical field’s understanding of women’s health. PERIOD. Help us elect women who will make that a reality. Donate to Her Bold Move TODAY →

For women,

Her Bold Move is the fastest-growing support network for women running for political office in America. As dangerous laws about women get passed in states with the lowest numbers of women in government (11%, 12%....), we're BREAKING the male supermajorities across those states.
Because men shouldn't be making laws about women's bodies.
