Friend, it’s been nearly two weeks since the devastating flash flood that ravaged villages along the Nepal-China border. We know it’s difficult to capture the scope of a crisis without being there firsthand. That’s why today, we’re sharing some photos from on the ground in Nepal and delving deeper into our response.

On the morning of August 26, a glacial collapse sent a flash flood barreling toward communities along the Bhote Koshi River in Nepal.

The resulting damage was catastrophic. Without warning, people were swept away, roads and bridges were destroyed, and entire buildings disappeared in an instant.

The death toll has risen above 1,300, with thousands of others injured or still missing. Thousands of survivors are now living with little or no access to clean water, medical care or essential supplies — even as they continue to search for loved ones who may have perished in the flood.

In the immediate aftermath of this disaster, Americares deployed experts to Nepal to coordinate support with local partners, health organizations and government authorities. We’re rushing emergency funding to support medical teams that will provide essential primary care services to approximately 2,000 flood survivors in the hardest hit communities in the coming weeks.
