SUPPORTING FLORIDA’S CATTLE RANCHERS

I joined my colleagues in sending a letter to President Trump urging his administration to prioritize long-term stability for American cattle producers as it considers changes that impact livestock markets. Cattle producers should have a seat at the table when decisions are being made that directly affect their livelihoods and the future of the industry.

Our letter also laid out steps to strengthen the cattle industry for the long haul. That includes expanding markets for American beef at home and abroad, increasing domestic processing capacity and supporting policies that help producers rebuild their herds and grow their operations. Florida’s cattle producers are an important part of our agriculture economy, and ensuring they can compete in a fair and stable market matters to communities across our state.

KEEPING THE GOVERNMENT OPEN

The House took action to prevent another government shutdown weeks ahead of the funding deadline. We have a responsibility to keep the government open and ensure the critical services Americans rely on aren’t disrupted.

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I’ve spent the year working to advance responsible government funding through regular order. Our committee has completed work on all 12, and the House has already passed three individually. The Senate, however, has yet to make meaningful progress on its bills. Without action, that would leave us with the less than desirable choice between temporarily extending funding or allowing the government to shut down.

Last week’s CR keeps the government open, but the work isn’t finished. Congress now has until December to complete the full-year funding process, cut wasteful spending and bring greater accountability to how taxpayer dollars are spent.

CONNECTING ACROSS FL-18

Last week, I hosted another Telephone Town Hall with folks across FL-18 to answer your questions, provide an update on what’s happening in Congress and hear directly from you. We also asked callers to weigh in on several issues, including the cost of living, the Supreme Court and government accountability. The results above give me a better sense of where folks across our district stand and help me better represent you.
