Hello John,
I am shocked this hasn’t received more attention before now — if Congress fails to act soon, the Social Security trust fund will be insolvent within six years.
This issue has been on the horizon for years now. I am glad it is getting more news coverage because further inaction will be devastating for working Hoosiers.
Since the Social Security Act became law, every American worker has contributed to the system through a payroll tax with the understanding that Social Security would be there for us when we retire, just as it has been for generations.
Years of unfair, Republican-led policies have put the largest tax burden onto low- and average-income workers. Now, Republicans are trying to privatize Social Security to further benefit corporations and the ultra-wealthy.
We need to safeguard Social Security! I support raising the cap on taxable earnings to $400,000 to keep the system solvent and ensure the rich pay their fair share.
I am running for Congress in Indiana’s 6th District to help working families. I hope I can count on your vote this November!
In solidarity,
