Dear John,

CJA’s Story Snapshots showcase the arts, creativity, and culture of our
communities through day-to-day work and shared visions for our future.

In our newest snapshot, _Esperanza: The Heart of Eastie [3],_ CJA member
GreenRoots brings you to the kitchen tables, block parties and community
meetings of East Boston with a series of family portraits and a short film.
You’ll witness firsthand how the residents of East Boston fight back,
change the narrative, and build community in the process.

Witness their demands for inclusion and leadership in the political process
via community meetings about two projects: a proposed electricity
substation where a former mayor promised a soccer field, and a luxury condo
project with little prerogative or obligation to build housing that is
affordable to the residents of the neighborhood itself or to invest their
profits into the community.

Find out what makes East Boston a vibrant and culturally diverse home to so
many, as well as the importance of language justice -- the right to speak
and be spoken to in one’s mother tongue. This community’s demand to
gain voice in political processes that will ultimately determine the future
of their neighborhood is what Just Transition looks like in practice!

PODCAST: For a more in-depth perspective of the multimedia piece from the
creators and organizers themselves, listen to our newest podcast episode
from _Stories from Home [4]: Living the Just Transition_ with GREENROOTS’
GABRIELA CARTAGENA AND NOEMY RODRIGUEZ, available in Spanish [5] and
English [6].

We hope you enjoy this snapshot and share widely. We encourage you to carry
with you the spirit of Eastie into your own Just Transition journey. As
always, you can learn more about the Just Transition framework [7] and how
to put it into practice to build a regenerative economy [8] on our website.

Enjoy the journey!
