Did you get your scorecard?

If you’re a member, you should have received our 2019-20 Conservation Scorecard in the mail last week.

The scorecard tells the story of the past legislative session, and how our priorities as conservation voters were ignored despite high hopes.

With the election of Gov. Tony Evers, the declaration of 2019 as The Year of Clean Drinking Water, and the formation of the Speaker’s Task Force on Water Quality, it seemed like we were heading into what promised to be a productive legislative session for clean water.

The reality, unfortunately, was quite different.

While Gov. Evers kept his promises by issuing several important executive orders, the legislature, led by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, did nothing.

They failed to pass a single substantive bill.

The scorecard is a record of the votes legislators cast on important pieces of legislation, and how those pieces of legislation were dashed by legislative leadership and the lawmakers who refused to stand up for their constituents.

It’s more important than ever to hold our elected representatives accountable for what they do, which often contradicts what they say. Speaker Vos said that everyone should have access to safe, clean drinking water. And yet he bowed to corporate polluters and failed to pass any of the bills that would keep PFAS, manure, and lead out of our water.

As conservation voters, we’re led by our values, not politics. Clean water. Clean air. Clean government. A healthier environment. These are our values. Yet, these legislative leaders chose again and again to ignore the growing crises that we face, like polluted water and climate change.

We encourage you to judge legislators by their actions. The scorecard, along with our Vote Tracker [[link removed]] , allows you to easily find and share the truth of those actions from last session.
