This morning I joined members of New Hampshire’s labor movement at the NH AFL-CIO Labor Day Breakfast to talk about our shared commitment to working families.
For many Labor Day isn’t a long weekend, a cookout, or a chance to catch a big sale. For millions of people, it’s just another workday.
I appreciate everyone working today to keep New Hampshire moving.
As a small business owner, I know that when we invest in and support our employees, we all do better. Living wages, fair hours, vacation time, and access to health care can make a world of difference for workers and their families.
The protections we rely on today — Social Security, Medicare, the 40-hour workweek, overtime, paid sick leave protections, and safer workplaces — didn’t happen by accident. They were hard-fought victories won by the labor movement.
When working people have a seat at the table, our entire middle class benefits.
That’s why I’ve fought to make sure workers have a voice in Congress. I helped introduce the PRO Act to protect collective bargaining rights and hold corporations accountable for violating those rights. And when the Trump Administration stripped union rights from one million federal workers, I got to work fighting to restore those protections.
I’m proud of my record. But there’s still a lot of work to do.
This election is a choice about who will stand with New Hampshire’s working families.
When John Sununu was in the Senate, he opposed a proposal to raise the federal minimum wage and argued that raising it would “price workers out of the market.”
I couldn’t disagree more.
If you work hard, you should be able to earn a living wage, support your family, and get ahead.
Granite Staters deserve a Senator who will stand up for their right to organize, bargain collectively, and have a voice on the job.
There is dignity in every honest job — including bussing tables, cooking meals, teaching kids, caring for patients, and doing the countless jobs that keep our communities moving.
I’m honored to have the support of unions across New Hampshire, and I’ll keep fighting alongside working families to raise wages, defend collective bargaining, protect Social Security and Medicare, and make sure every worker is treated with dignity and respect.
We’re always stronger when we work together toward a common goal. I’ve seen that firsthand at my family’s restaurant, in Congress, and on this campaign.
