Today, many of us in the West Coast of the U.S. woke up to dark orange skies, clouded by smoke due to wildfires raging across several states.
Indigenous peoples in the Brazilian Amazon also awaken to dark skies, as fires are set on recently deforested areas to clear the land for agriculture. The Amazon fires are unnatural acts of criminal arson enabled by global corporations and financial institutions such as BlackRock.
Right now, we are united by our fear and outrage, and we must take steps together to fight back. Will you make a monthly donation today to pressure those complicit in the destruction of the Amazon and our climate?
Last year, BlackRock said it would act for the Amazon. It even announced sweeping climate commitments earlier this year, yet BlackRock has failed to develop binding agreements against deforestation and violations of Indigenous rights.
What preceded this year's burning season was a series of false promises and commitments. But the world is watching, and BlackRock’s reputation is finally on the line. There has never been a better opportunity to push those complicit to take action.
We need your support to make sure institutions like BlackRock take the right steps to protect Indigenous peoples, the Amazon, and our climate! All donations go directly to our program work.
Please consider becoming a monthly sustainer today and help to maintain the pressure.
For the Amazon,
