Friend -
Today, we at the WSDC want to honor the hardworking, resilient Americans across the country who work every day to uphold the values our country was built on. Happy Labor Day, everyone!
Here in Washington, we see working people tirelessly contributing every day to the success of our state and country, pushing the limits of innovation and economic growth. Washington Senate Democrats are proud to have made strides toward livable wages, job security, and a more affordable Washington that works for all of us.
This past session, we passed the Millionaires Tax to address our upside-down tax structure by taxing incomes over $1 million annually. The revenue this tax provides will help fund our schools, ensure access to affordable healthcare, and preserve clean air and water for every Washingtonian. Working people deserve an economy that works for them, and that starts with making sure everyone pays their fair share.
In the face of an aggressive, anti-worker federal government, our first line of defense is state leadership to protect us from dangerous federal cuts. So this year, our legislature passed a series of labor bills protecting workers. This includes strengthening notice requirements for immigrant workers facing federal work authorization inspections, establishing state-level collective bargaining protections for workers left uncovered by federal labor law, and expanding accommodations for pregnant workers in the workplace. Our commitment to a free and fair workforce and economy for everyone is why we are celebrating today and more motivated than ever to keep fighting.
As we reflect today, let's acknowledge the progress we've made while looking toward the future. With your dedicated support, we've been able to protect our neighbors, friends, and family members. Our work is far from over, so we thank you again as we build toward a future that puts people first.
In Solidarity,
Team WSDC
