John xxxxxx, let me be among the first to wish you a very happy Labor Day!
I hope you’ll have a chance to enjoy a restful and safe holiday today alongside family and friends.
Personally, I never let Labor Day pass without reflecting on how unions shaped my life, and the lives of so many others across our state of Maryland.
I come from a strong union family across generations. After my dad died when I was 3, we received critical support from his union.
Growing up in a union household, you learn this first hand: union members and their families represent the very best of Maryland. Our economy simply wouldn’t be where it is today without the accomplishments of the Labor Movement.
Maryland deserves a governor who will champion for the right to paid sick, family and medical leave. Someone who will strengthen collective bargaining rights. That’s why I’m proud that, alongside our partners in organized labor, my administration is working hard to promote work, wages, and wealth. And we’re just getting started.
Unions have stood with me, and I will always stand with them.
Elevate,
Wes
