I don't come from wealth or power. I come from Youngstown, Ohio. And growing up, I faced homelessness, hunger, and abuse.
I share my story because I know that, sadly, it isn’t unique.
I credit public schools with saving my life. I got accepted into medical school straight out of high school, and I worked three jobs in college to fulfill my dream of becoming a doctor.
I became a mom while I was doing my residency in preventive medicine.
Being a young mom during my residency wasn’t easy, and across the state, millions of Ohioans are up against similar battles.
And that’s not because we don’t work hard – it’s because our Statehouse has looked away from the problems we face for far too long.
I'm not a billionaire. I can't write myself a huge check and just call it a day. What I have is you, friend, and thousands of people across Ohio who have chipped in a few dollars because they believe, like I do, that this state is worth fighting for.
