Friend,

In almost every corner of the country, Americans are feeling the effects of the climate crisis.

In the Midwest this summer, folks faced down a deadly derecho that flattened towns and ruined farms. Along the Gulf, Louisianans and Texans faced a Category 4 hurricane -- something they're becoming all too familiar with. In California, Oregon, and right here in Washington, residents are fleeing raging wildfires -- in what has become an annual tragedy -- or coughing on smoke that's clogging the air up and down the coast. Anywhere else? Either too much rain or not enough has meant flooded streets or dried up crops.

Our oceans are warming, which makes hurricanes more powerful. Our weather patterns are less predictable, which makes for stronger storms and wildfires. Americans are facing down extreme weather fueled by climate change amidst a global pandemic, which could also become more common due to climate change.

I've committed my life and my career to ending the climate crisis. I'm more committed now than ever because this year has shown what we're facing when national leaders don't act. If you believe we must end the climate crisis before it's too late, add your name right now to recommit to the fight against climate change right now.

It's hard to think that just one thing is really fueling the fires -- metaphorically and literally -- behind this year's extreme weather. But just one thing is: heat.

At least 140 weather stations across the Western United States noted record high temperatures this summer, and one in Death Valley reached 130 degrees. That's one of the hottest places on Earth, right here in our own country.

I really can't even put it better than the National Weather Service did on Twitter: "Yeah, it's summer, and summer is hot, but this is different. These are dangerous conditions."

But the truth is, things will get more dangerous. Temperatures will continue to rise, and weather will continue to worsen (especially if we get four more years of a president who refuses to even acknowledge the danger, let alone take action on it) -- unless we commit to large-scale changes.

I'm committed. Are you? Add your name to recommit to the fight against climate change right now.

Very truly yours,

Jay
