Updates as Homes England to start work on car park demolition project from Wednesday 9 September

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians will start to see changes to Maid Marian Way from Wednesday 9 September.
The works are part of Homes England's demolition of the NCP car park and former Nottingham College site to pave the way for major redevelopment of the wider Broad Marsh site.
These will include lane closures and, in time, contraflows, further up Maid Marian Way, with four-way temporary lights at the junction with Canal Street, Wilford Street and Castle Boulevard.
The demolition programme is a vital step in clearing the way for the once-in-a-generation transformation of Broad Marsh, which will create new homes, workspaces and public spaces in the heart of the city.
It builds on the progress already made around the site, including the new Nottingham College hub, Central Library, bus station and Green Heart public realm.

Inspiring girls to get active through inclusive cycling
Girls cycling in Nottingham
More than 120 girls from schools across Nottingham came together for a Girls Active Day at Nottingham Trent University.
Hosted by Active Notts in partnership with local schools and sports groups, the event was about helping girls feel confident, supported and inspired to be more active.
In partnership with Nottingham City Council, British Cycling delivered an inclusive cycling session where every girl could take part, regardless of previous experience or cycling ability.
British Cycling will also be hosting some FREE cycling sessions for women and girls at Harvey Hadden in September [ [link removed] ]. Open to all abilities, including those new to cycling, the sessions provide a supportive environment with all-female coaching staff.

September is Catch the Bus month - an annual reminder of the power of buses!
Buses are good for the environment, good for cleaner air and great at helping you get around without being stuck in jams.
We have fantastic local bus operators in Nottingham, partly due to the City Council managing to hold on to ownership of Nottingham City Transport, meaning it operates on a not-for-profit basis.
So, a huge thank you to everyone who works in and around Nottingham making sure our buses are the best, and a reminder to take advantage of them using the £3 single ticket offer.

Following the sad collapse of CT4N, the East Midlands Combined County Authority has stepped in to arrange new bus services.
Services including 18, L2, L4, L14 and Service 20 have now been replaced - if you usually use these services, please take a look at the new timetable and route information.

Nottingham young people celebrate independent travel success

Twelve young people were celebrated for learning to travel independently.
Independent Travel Training helps young people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities develop the everyday travel skills they need to use public transport safely and confidently.
The scheme is available to Nottingham students with SEND, supporting them to travel independently from home to their place of education.

Nottingham jobseekers project: Irene’s journey to independent travel

The Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, in partnership with Nottingham City Council, are helping jobseekers in Nottingham by providing travel assistance and free refurbished bikes.
The Nottingham Jobseekers Project provides travel support for residents looking for work or managing zero-hours contracts. Through refurbished bikes, personal travel plans and collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions and local partners, the project enables people to access interviews and training without travel holding them back.

There's just over a week to go before the Travel Well mobility pop-up moves on from the Forest Rec.
The temporary stand has been moving around Nottingham this summer, having started out at the Embankment before relocating to Beechdale Road. It will head to St Ann's next for its final stop.
The pop-up combines a host of active travel options including e-bikes and e-scooters, plus free activities like cycle maintenance and build-a-bike, with a specific focus on young people not currently in education, training or employment.
The final session at Forest Rec will be an information stand with Dr Bike, plus the chance to try out a Lime Bike. It will take place between 11am and 2pm on Saturday 12 September. More details at the link below.
