Proposition 212 — the Protect Education Act — would have asked Arizona voters to institute sweeping regulations on the state's billion-dollar school voucher program. Supporters turned in nearly 420,000 signatures . Arizonans showed up in massive numbers to put this on the ballot.

And then the voucher lobby went to court to kill it.

The lengths that the voucher lobby went to invalidate signatures with scorched-earth legal objections shows just how terrified they are of Arizona voters actually having a say in how our tax dollars are spent. They knew Arizona voters would prioritize funding a robust public education system over a $1 billion ESA voucher program siphoning tax dollars to unregulated private schools.

They were right to be terrified. So they made sure voters never got the chance.

This year will be the first even-numbered year since 2014 with no citizen-initiated measures on the statewide ballot because Republicans have spent years making it harder for voters to bypass their legislature and make their voices heard directly.

Arizona Democrats are furious. And we're fighting back.

Arizona Senate Democrats made clear: this ruling "cannot stop the fight for accountability." We are supporting candidates up and down the ballot — including Terry Leyba Ruiz for Superintendent of Public Instruction and Democrats running for state legislature — who will fight for public schools, hold the voucher program accountable, and make sure Arizona's tax dollars go to Arizona's kids.

The voucher lobby killed Prop. 212 in court. We're going to beat them at the ballot box.

Will you chip in $10 or whatever you can today to help Arizona Democrats elect leaders who will fight for public education in November? [[link removed]]

They didn't want Arizona voters to have a say. Let's prove them wrong on November 3rd.
