Last weekend, our first Ground Truth bus of the year transported more than 40 volunteers to Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District.
Together, they knocked on doors to help Democrat Paige Cognetti defeat Republican Rob Bresnahan this November and flip this critical swing district blue.
After the canvass, the energy and joy on the ride home were palpable. Everyone wanted to talk and debrief about the incredible conversations they had with voters, and they’re all looking forward to joining our next canvass later this month.
One volunteer leader even said she went into the canvass as a bit of a skeptic on Ground Truth. But once it was over, she was thoroughly impressed with the strategy and was already planning ways to participate more.
If you’re not already familiar, Ground Truth is Swing Left’s innovative, volunteer-led deep canvassing program that aims to rebuild trust in Democrats by listening first. We talk to voters across the ideological spectrum, including Republicans, Independents, and waning Democrats, take notes on what we hear, and make valuable insights available to Democratic campaigns and party committees so they can refine their messaging and outreach strategies to build winning campaigns ahead of Election Day.
So far, Ground Truth volunteers have had more than 15,000 meaningful conversations with voters in swing districts and states across the country, and we’re planning to scale up exponentially before the election.
But in order to make it happen, we’re going to need a lot more buses—and this bus program is only possible thanks to the generous support of the Swing Left community.
We’re aiming to raise $100,000 to secure 33 buses in total before Election Day, and so far, this community has helped us raise $50,000 toward that goal. We’re halfway there, and I can’t thank you enough for making that happen.
With the help of this grassroots community, I’m confident that we can reach our $100,000 goal, have hundreds of thousands of conversations with voters, and make the difference for Democrats in swing races across the country this November.
