OpenAI admitted two of its models broke out of a locked down test against human orders, figured out how to bypass company restrictions, secretly communicated, got rid of the evidence, and hacked into another AI company.

That may sound like a sci-fi movie, but it’s not, John. This is real life, and it's dangerous.

That’s why Senator Bernie Sanders and I are teaming up together to BAN AI superintelligence.

Artificial superintelligence is designed to surpass human intelligence. It would be smarter and faster than humankind. It could have access to nuclear or biochemical weapons, or be able to create new viruses. And it could even deceive humans about being under human control, and defy human commands.

A ban on the development of superintelligence is necessary so we never get to the place where machines go beyond humans’ ability to shut them down.

Senator Sanders and my bill bans building AI superintelligence. It establishes a federal agency that ensures that we’re kept safe. And if a company defies this proposed law, then we shut it down. Simple.

This summer’s incident at OpenAI was unprecedented in the history of technology. And then…nothing changed in Congress.. No new guardrails. No new protections.

We’re going to change that. Senator Sanders and I are fighting back because the future of our society is at stake.
