John, did you see
this? A federal appeals court ruled that Sigal Chattah, one of Trump’s
crony nominees, has been illegally running the U.S. Attorney's office in
Nevada.
Not "controversially." Not "questionably." Illegally.^1
For over a year, Chattah — a Trump loyalist and former Nevada GOP official
— held one of the most powerful law enforcement jobs in the state without
ever being confirmed by the Senate, thanks to a legal shell game: expire
one appointment, invent a new title, repeat.
Here's why that matters. While Chattah illegally occupied that office, she
used it to push Trump's retribution campaign against his political enemies
— and pressured the FBI to chase already-debunked election-fraud theories.
Courts have struck down Trump loyalists installed the same way in other
states. But striking an appointment doesn't undo a year of political
prosecutions and a Justice Department bent toward one man's enemies list.
Trump doesn't care whether his people are qualified or lawfully appointed
— he cares whether they're loyal to him instead of the Constitution, and
he's not going to stop.
Demand Justice exists to hold him and every one of his nominees
accountable. That means tracking every illegal appointment like Chattah's
and pressuring senators who are supposed to be a check on this, not a
rubber stamp.
