Email from Rep. Hinson Dear Friend, I’m thrilled to say my bipartisan bill, the Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Trade Crimes Act, passed the House unanimously Monday evening. For decades, China has found ways around our trade laws to undercut American workers and businesses, and our enforcement hasn’t kept up. The Select Committee on China uncovered trade fraud by Chinese auto manufacturer Qingdao Sunsong. Sunsong was routing products through another country to evade U.S. duties and brought unfair competition to the marketplace. And who paid the price? An American company based in Illinois ended up laying off a quarter of its workforce. That’s what we’re talking about when we say trade crime: an American company plays by the rules, someone else lies and cheats their way around them, and American workers pay the price and lose their jobs. Right now, the Justice Department simply doesn’t have the tools it needs to effectively investigate and prosecute the sheer volume of these cases. My bill changes that by strengthening enforcement and ensuring there are real consequences for those who violate our laws. American workers have paid the price for China’s trade abuses for decades. It’s time for China to face the consequences. Click here or above for the full video! There should be nothing partisan about protecting American workers and manufacturing. I’m especially proud this passed the House unanimously with such broad support — not only from Republicans and Democrats, but from groups like the AFL-CIO, United Steelworkers, and manufacturers across the country. As I like to say, good things happen when we work together. I’ll keep working across the aisle to deliver results for Iowans. After a fraudulent tax return was filed in her late husband’s name, a constituent was still waiting on her 2021 refund. My team helped resolve the issue and secure the tens of thousands of dollars she was owed. VA Reimbursement: Recovered! A constituent reached out after the VA sent his home loan reimbursement check to the wrong address, leaving his claim stuck with no timeline for resolution. My team contacted the VA, and within two weeks, he received the more than $10,000 he was owed. District Dispatch US-52 is an important route through Garnavillo. Team Hinson met with city leaders to discuss repairs along Main Street and the importance of keeping this route in good shape. Team Hinson also joined the Allsop Family Humane Society to celebrate the grand opening of its new adoption & pet services centers. It was a blast for my team to join the Linn County Girl Scouts for Democracy Day. These talented, young girls are the next generation of Iowa’s leaders, and we loved the opportunity to empower them and help them succeed. Facebook Instagram X Truth Stay Connected Rep.
