Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel kicked off Round Three of the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge, with a record 650,000 students at more than 2,100 schools across all 88 counties stepping up to build healthier habits and become the best versions of themselves.

What started just one year ago as a challenge to help Ohio students build healthier habits has quickly grown into a statewide movement. Since its launch in August 2025, student participation has increased by nearly 255%, making the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge one of the largest statewide youth wellness efforts in the country.

*But for Tressel, the numbers are only part of the story.*

"The most exciting part isn’t how big this Challenge has become. It’s knowing that well over half a million young people are going to learn something about themselves along the way," said Lt. Governor Tressel. "We want every student to discover that when they set a goal, build good habits, and give their best effort every day, there’s no limit to what they can accomplish."

Governor DeWine and the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced that Ohio Mobile ID is now available in Google Wallet.

Ohio residents with an Android device can add their Ohio Driver License or State ID to Google Wallet, offering a secure and convenient digital companion to the physical card.

Governor holds up signed proclamation recognizing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month [ [link removed] ]

Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, MBA, announced [ [link removed] ] the creation of a navigation program that will connect families of pediatric cancer patients with the tools they need to get help more quickly and effectively. The announcement coincides with the first day of September, which is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The Pediatric Complex Care Navigation Program, housed within ODH, will provide families with a single point of contact who can connect them to resources to help navigate the many complicated issues that arise once a child is diagnosed with cancer.

“This program will save precious time solving problems and finding answers when families need it most,” said Governor DeWine. “Our goal is to help as many families as possible and connect them with potentially life-saving resources.”

Governor DeWine Announces 12 Regional Education Partnerships Across Ohio. [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Tressel  announced [ [link removed] ] the launch of Ohio’s Regional Education Partnerships, a new statewide initiative to help children get a strong start in life, stay on track through school, and prepare for college, training, or meaningful careers.


Ohio has designated 12 regional partnerships that will bring together local education leaders, employers, workforce organizations, and other community partners to proactively identify and address the most pressing challenges facing young Ohioans as they progress through school and into the workforce.

“Ohio’s future depends on the success of our young people,” said Governor DeWine. “Regional Education Partnerships build on our years of investments in early childhood, literacy, and career-connected learning by bringing communities together around a shared goal – helping more young people reach their full potential. By working together, we will identify challenges sooner, connect families with the support they need, and create more opportunities for Ohio’s next generation.”

“Every community has incredible people and organizations working to help young people succeed,” said Lt. Governor Tressel. “Regional Education Partnerships give those local leaders a way to come together, look at what’s working, identify where students are falling behind, and solve problems as a team. When an entire community pulls in the same direction, we create more opportunities for people and build a stronger future for Ohio.”

Governor DeWine Orders Flags Lowered in Honor of Former Ohio Representative and State Senator Ray Miller [ [link removed] ]

In honor of the life and service of former Ohio Representative and State Senator Ray Miller, Governor Mike DeWine ordered [ [link removed] ] that the flags of the United States and the state of Ohio be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds throughout Franklin County and at the Ohio Statehouse, Vern Riffe Center, and Rhodes Tower from sunrise to sunset on the day of his funeral, September 5, 2026.

As part of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s H2Ohio [ [link removed] ] Initiative, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and the city of St. Marys held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate [ [link removed] ] the completion of a water treatment project near the city just south of the St. Marys River. The project includes a series of wetlands spanning a 31-acre site to improve water quality throughout the region.

"St. Marys has an important history when it comes to water, from the development of the Miami-Erie Canal to Grand Lake St. Marys," said Governor DeWine. "H2Ohio fits perfectly into their story by improving water quality in the area with the creation of these wetlands." 

The project created a series of wetland pools to trap sediment and reduce nutrients flowing northwest past the city of St. Marys and ultimately into the Maumee River and Lake Erie. The new wetland pool complex, referred to as a treatment train, can hold more water during storm events and will allow for greater nutrient removal for both phosphorus and nitrogen.   In addition to wetland creation, the project also has water intake pipes with flow-control structures to regulate the volume of water entering the wetlands. A variety of wetland vegetation, including pollinator plants, forbs, and grass were planted to create habitat and stabilize wetland areas.

Ohio county storm disaster map [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine sent a letter to President Donald Trump requesting a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration [ [link removed] ] for Ohio after [ [link removed] ] severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds, and tornadoes battered Ohio in August.

The request covers the following 23 counties: Adams, Athens, Brown, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clermont, Darke, Fairfield, Franklin, Greene, Hamilton, Highland, Licking, Logan, Madison, Morgan, Muskingum, Perry, Preble, Richland, Shelby, and Washington.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Small Business Administration (SBA) conducted preliminary damage assessments in these counties last week, finding that at least 50 homes and businesses were destroyed, 806 had major damage, and 475 had minor damage.

“Federal assistance will be critical in helping the Ohioans impacted by last month's severe weather recover and move forward with their lives. These storms resulted in a disaster of such severity and magnitude that it exceeds the capabilities of the State of Ohio, local governments, and disaster relief organizations to provide comprehensive support,” said Governor DeWine.
