Why I’m running

Hey John,

I’m Paige Cognetti. I’m a mom, wife, and the Mayor of Scranton, PA. Can I tell you about myself?

From the Scranton School Board to the PA Auditor General’s office to my mayoral term, I’ve always had a vision that the government should work as hard as the people it serves.

I ran for mayor after watching Scranton’s previous mayor plead guilty to federal charges and resign in disgrace. I felt then, as I do now, that I didn’t want to raise my daughters in a country where corruption, abuse, and fraud in government are okay.

Our leaders in Congress are not fighting for us. Congressman Rob Bresnahan’s term has been defined by corruption and an abuse of trust — blatant lies, trading stocks, profiting off his own votes, and lining his pockets at the expense of hardworking people in our district.

I won’t stand by and let that abuse continue. I’m running for Congress to represent PA-08 to bring reform, transparency, and government accountability to NEPA. That means:

  • Banning Congressional stock trading
  • Rejecting corporate PAC money
  • Cutting red tape and championing small businesses
  • Restoring manufacturing jobs, strengthening unions, and lowering costs
  • Going after healthcare & insurance industry policies making it harder for us to get care

If I could end this email by telling you how I plan to work for you to improve our communities, John — I would. But we’re up against dark money and special interests desperate to keep this seat red. That’s why I have to ask: Will you support my campaign for a better NEPA by contributing $10, $25, or whatever you can spare?

I'm Paige Cognetti. I ran for Mayor of Scranton as an independent to reform a corrupt City Hall. Over the past six years I've lowered costs, cut red tape, invested in public safety, brought in hundreds of new businesses, and created jobs. I'm running for Congress in PA-8 to take on a corrupt Washington, because government should work as hard as the people it serves.

If you're with me, join us by chipping in today.
