Hi friends, this is deeply concerning to me:
The AP is reporting that ICE has detained or deported more than 50 spouses and parents of active-duty U.S. service members.
At least six have already been deported, one individual self-deported, and at least eight immediate family members remain in federal immigration detention right now — while their loved ones serve this country in uniform. And just recently, Border Patrol arrested [[link removed]] the father of a sailor on the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has reportedly faced deteriorating conditions from food shortages to lack of access to mental health care leading to some service members attempting to jump overboard [[link removed]] .
For decades, under bipartisan consensus, family members of U.S. service members have been protected from deportation. But this administration has rolled back those immigration protections to further its mass deportation agenda (while still promoting these benefits to prospective recruits right now — yes, really). And our military families are paying the price.
I represent the largest military community in the country, and I'm the only San Diego member on the House Armed Services Committee. I hear directly from service members and military families about their struggles every single day. And I take it personally when this administration treats my constituents with disrespect.
How can our service members focus on their jobs while their loved ones are being ripped away from them? Some have been forced to take leave or delay deployment because ICE arrested their spouse or parent and left them with no one to care for their children. This undermines military readiness. It undermines our national security. And it is deeply, profoundly unpatriotic.
This is the same administration that sent thousands of San Diego sailors and Marines into harm's way in Iran — our neighbors, our friends, people we see at the grocery store and on the sidewalk. They sacrifice their bodies, their mental health, their time with their families, and sometimes their lives for this country. The least we can do is make sure their loved ones are safe while they're gone.
This administration has shown us again and again that they don't give a damn about our service members.
I do. And I'm going to keep fighting for them.
Will you chip in to my re-election campaign today so I can continue the fight in Washington to hold this administration accountable? [[link removed]]

Our service members deserve better, and so do their families. Let's make sure they know we're fighting for them.
