He is due back in court for sentencing on Oct. 1. Salazar was convicted last week of first-degree murder for the Sept. 16, 2023, killing of Clinkunbroomer. Jurors also found true the special circumstance allegations of murder of a peace officer, lying in wait and firing from a vehicle, along with allegations that he personally used and discharged a .22-caliber revolver. Salazar had entered a dual plea of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity in connection with the killing, so his conviction prompted a sanity phase of the trial that ended earlier this week. If he had been found insane at the time of the crime, the defendant would have been sent to a state hospital for treatment. FOX 11 Woman, 33, Killed by Car in West Hills Police Thursday were investigating the death of a 33-year-old woman who was struck by a car in West Hills. Dolores Mora was crossing Roscoe Boulevard outside of a crosswalk and was struck by a westbound vehicle around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Farralone Avenue, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office listed Mora as residing in Port Hueneme, in Ventura County, but police described her as being homeless. The driver stopped as required by law, the LAPD stated. Video from the scene showed a silver Toyota sedan with a cracked windshield and police officers erecting a tent to cover the body. MyNewsLA Man hit and killed by Metro train in Highland Park A man was fatally struck by a Metro train in Highland Park Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s traffic division. The incident was reported at around 4:45 a.m. The man was described to be in his 60s. The incident may cause delays on Metro’s A Line as the investigation continues. No further details were immediately available. NBC 4 19-Year-Old Arrested in Beverly Hills Fatal Stabbing Charged with Murder A 19-year-old man from Beverly Hills was charged with murder Wednesday in a fatal stabbing in an alley in the city and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday. Conoray Lawantara is accused of stabbing a man Sunday night in an alley in the 400 block of North Palm Drive, near Beverly Boulevard, according to the Beverly Hills Police Department. Officers found a man suffering from a neck wound and rendered aid before he was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. Lawantara was also taken to a hospital, released Wednesday and booked at the Beverly Hills Police Department, police said. Bail was set at $2 million. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Airport Branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Brigette Barbie, who witnessed the aftermath of the incident, told the Los Angeles Times she believed the victim was homeless. MyNewsLA Christian podcaster arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of threatening President Trump Authorities arrested a podcaster at his Los Angeles-area home Thursday morning on suspicion of threatening to kill the president of the United States. First Assistant U.S. Atty. Bill Essayli for the Central District of California said in a post on X, that Benjamin Azariah Southworth, 40, was indicted by a grand jury on federal charges accusing him of “threatening to kill President Trump, cyberstalking and making harassing interstate calls, and was arrested at his home. In the post Essayli said Southworth is charged with posting videos calling for Trump’s assassination, “then targeting the family of the President’s personal attorney by publishing their home address and phone numbers, leaving voicemails threatening, ‘justice comes to your door.’” Southworth is a podcaster, writer and former television presenter of The Remix, a syndicated youth reality and music television show that featured Christian artists. In 2008, Southworth revealed that he is gay and advocated for LGBTQ rights. He currently helms the “Yass, Jesus!” podcast, an interfaith and sexuality affirming comedy show. “Threats against the President of the United States are federal crimes,” Essayli stated in the post. “We will not tolerate threats of political violence in the United States. My office will prosecute anyone who crosses that line to the fullest extent of the law.” Los Angeles Times LA County man charged for allegedly threatening to "shoot up" Jewish center A 43-year-old man from Lomita faces a hate crime charge for threatening to "shoot up" the Jewish Community Center in Redondo Beach. Paul Dean Andrews pleaded not guilty to the hate crime charge and other felonies, including making criminal threats to a school and attempted criminal threats, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. He faces up to a little more than nine years in state prison if he's convicted as charged. He's being held on a $275,000 bail. "Hate crimes have no place in our community," District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. "My office will not tolerate threats motivated by hatred and individuals who choose to engage in hate-driven crimes will be held fully accountable." Prosecutors said Andrews allegedly called the Jewish Community Center several times between Aug. 11 and Aug. 13 and went on antisemitic tirades. During the final call, Andrews allegedly threatened an executive, telling him to get out of the South Bay and that he knows that "there are a whole bunch of kids there" and that he was "going to come up and shoot up the place." Andrews has a history of leaving voicemails filled with antisemitic slurs, according to the LA County DA's Office. CBS 2 Violent weekslong Southern California crime spree ends in guilty plea A South Los Angeles man has pleaded guilty in a violent, weekslong armed robbery spree across Southern California, federal prosecutors announced. The crimes unfolded over several weeks in 2024, targeting victims in parking lots from the South Bay to Orange County and culminating in the shooting of a man during an attempted Lamborghini carjacking, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. In one of the first attacks, on Aug. 25, prosecutors said 23-year-old Oshae Pollard robbed a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of Hustler Casino in Gardena. Pollard pushed the woman to the ground and pulled on her purse before forcing a gun into her mouth hard enough to break her teeth, according to his plea agreement. He threatened to kill her if she yelled and stole $1,000. The following day, Aug. 26, Pollard robbed a man sitting in his taxi in the parking lot of a Winchell’s Donut House in Carson, prosecutors said. Pollard pointed a gun at the man, struck him in the face and stole his wallet and cellphone. KTLA 5 Video: Woman attempts to stab Conn. State Capitol officer through cruiser window A woman was arrested Wednesday morning after attempting to stab a Connecticut State Capitol Police officer in Hartford, authorities said. The officer was on a “high-visibility patrol” near Armory Road and Michael J. Fallon Way near the Capitol around 6 a.m. when the woman tried to stab him with a knife through the driver-side window of his cruiser, according to police. Officials said the woman kept attempting to stab at the window until the knife broke, after which she ran from the scene. They said she also tried to steal a police cruiser while police pursued her. Surveillance video footage released by police on Wednesday appears to show the woman, who wore a backpack, attempting to stab the cruiser’s tire. She appeared to also throw an object at the cruiser’s window after the knife broke. After using a Taser on the woman, Capitol police said they were able to take her into custody. She then was brought to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation, according to a news release. Police bodycam footage released Wednesday shows officers tasing the woman after she tried to get in the driver’s seat of a parked cruiser. The video depicts officers placing handcuffs on the woman while she is on the floor facing down, while another officer restrains her legs. The Hour FBI investigating report of millions of driver’s licenses being leaked on dark web The FBI’s New Orleans field office says it is investigating after a report surfaced that millions of driver’s licenses belonging to U.S. and Canadian residents may have appeared on the dark web. Earlier this week, Brian Krebs, an independent journalist, reported that he had found a dark web site selling the digital scans of more than 153 million driver’s licenses. He described finding the records of multiple friends and family members, noting that several of those he spoke with reported renting a car around the same time as the timestamps included with the digital scans. Krebs alleged that some of the businesses these individuals reported sharing their driver’s license with work with IDScan.net, a company that verifies IDs. A representative for the company reportedly told Krebs the matter was under investigation. Nexstar contacted IDScan.net for comment but did not receive a response. In his report, Krebs explained that the FBI confirmed it was investigating an apparent breach involving IDScan.net. KTLA 5 Public Safety News Body recovered from lake at Hollenbeck Park in Los Angeles Emergency crews are responding to reports of a body in a lake at Hollenbeck Park in Los Angeles’ Boyle Heights neighborhood Thursday. Crews with the Los Angeles Fire Department were sent to the 2000 block of Hollenbeck Drive after receiving a call around 10:39 a.m., a department spokesperson confirmed. The spokesperson said crews were working to recover the body but could not immediately provide any further details about the person’s identity. Sky5 was over the scene just before 11:30 a.m., after the body had been removed from the water and covered with a white sheet. It was unclear how the person ended up in the lake or whether foul play was involved. Hollenbeck Park is located alongside the 10 Freeway and just east of the East L.A. Interchange.
