Friend,
Yesterday, House Republican leaders tried to permanently lock the Supreme
Court at nine justices. They were willing to surrender a power Congress
has exercised throughout our history in order to protect a status quo that
serves Donald Trump’s interests, not the interests of the American people.
Their effort fell far short.
This was a watershed moment for Supreme Court reform and a victory worth
celebrating, especially for the thousands of People For supporters who
signed our petition.
House Democrats overwhelmingly refused to surrender Congress’s power to
set the size of the Supreme Court. Because of that opposition, every
proposal for reform we’ve advocated for remains on the table.
Together, we made clear that the current Supreme Court is neither
permanent nor untouchable.
Now we need to build on this victory.
Even if you have signed these petitions before, please add your name again
today to reaffirm your support and keep building the momentum for reform.
[ [link removed] ]Pass the TERM Act >>
Establish regular appointments and 18-year active terms for Supreme Court
justices, ending the unchecked power that comes with serving for decades.
[ [link removed] ]Expand the Supreme Court under the next pro-democracy president >>
Rebalance a Supreme Court captured by the right-wing MAGA movement and
ensure that our rights and freedoms are protected.
[ [link removed] ]Establish a binding code of ethics for Supreme Court justices >>
Require justices to follow enforceable ethics rules and face real
consequences when they violate them.
Yesterday’s victory showed that organized public pressure can stop
attempts to put Supreme Court reform out of reach. If we keep organizing,
we can build the political power required to make real reform possible.
Whether you are taking action for the first time or renewing your
commitment, please sign all three petitions today and help turn this
moment into lasting change.
In solidarity,
Zach VanHouten
