It's been five days since we learned that Trump thinks soldiers who were wounded or killed in combat are "losers" and "suckers." Senator John Cornyn still hasn’t stood up to the president.
He’s had plenty of time to tweet about sunrises, restaurants in New York City, and fancy business lobbies -- but not a peep in defense of our troops.
This grassroots team, on the other hand, has stepped up in a big way. In just two days, y’all pitched in over half a million dollars to support our campaign to defeat Sen. Cornyn -- who has proved himself to be, in no uncertain terms, a cowardly bootlicker.
John Cornyn should take note: This is a demand for leaders who will defend our troops, not stand by as the Commander-in-Chief insults and degrades them. Pitch in now to help us make sure he gets the message.
I medevac’d soldiers off the battlefield in Afghanistan, and I’ve seen their sacrifices firsthand. Soldiers who would never be able to walk again, dance at their weddings, play catch with their kids -- and soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, whose families would have to live with the pain of their loss forever.
I have scars from shrapnel wounds up and down my arm that remind me of the pain and fear we felt the day my own helicopter was shot down -- but they also remind me of my deep sense of pride for having served my country.
If John Cornyn does not believe that people like me, my crew members, and the soldiers we medevac’d are losers and suckers, he needs to condemn these remarks.
Sen. Cornyn has stood by the president, even after he disparaged patriot John McCain, denigrated the Gold Star family of Captain Humayun Khan, disrespected and discredited transgender military members, and stole funds from our military bases for his border wall.
He’s probably hoping that this will all go away. That, like so many other outrageous moments of the last few years, he can just cower behind the president and wait until it passes.
We are not going to let that happen. That’s why I’m asking you to pitch in right now, because we need momentum that will terrify John Cornyn and send a message loud and clear: Our troops deserve better.
This is a call to action to every patriot across the country: We have to stand up for the next generation putting on the uniform and send a resounding message at the ballot box that we will not tolerate the disrespect of our troops.
I’m counting on you to help answer the call.
Thanks,
MJ
