Back to School Toolkit - Help Protect Kids From Harmful Wireless Exposure

Dear John,

With students settling into a new school year, now is an important time to make sure families and communities have the information they need to advocate for healthier learning environments.

Children spend much of their day in classrooms and on school grounds, where they may encounter Wi-Fi, wireless devices, and, in some communities, cell towers near schools and playgrounds. As the use of connected technology and screen-based learning continues to grow, questions about unnecessary wireless exposure deserve our attention.

Tens of thousands of independent scientific studies have reported biological and health effects associated with radiofrequency (RF) radiation, including findings related to cancer, fertility, neurological function, learning and memory and sleep. At the same time, concerns remain about whether current wireless exposure standards adequately reflect the latest science and today's technology.

The FCC's RF exposure guidelines are based in part on behavioral studies from the 1980s involving only eight rats and five monkeys. In 2021, a federal court directed the FCC to address an extensive scientific record and explain how its guidelines adequately protect human health, including the health of children. Nearly five years later, the agency has yet to take action.

Our children should not be the ones left to bear the consequences of outdated standards.

The good news is that schools can take practical steps to reduce unnecessary wireless exposure. Hard-wired internet connections can provide fast, reliable, and secure connectivity without relying on wireless signals throughout the learning environment.

Take Action This School Year:

Every parent, caregiver, educator, and community member can make a difference. This school year, let's speak up for technology choices that prioritize children's health and reduce unnecessary wireless exposure where they learn and play.

Sign the alert. Share the resources. Start the conversation.

Together, we can help create safer, healthier learning environments for the next generation.

Thank you for taking action.

In Truth,

The CHD EMR & Wireless Team
