John,
Some folks might remember the summer of 2022 when this team and I took the Sugar Free Summer challenge to highlight how much our diets have been invaded by unhealthy amounts of additives including processed sugar.
Much has been documented about the negative effects of foods high in added sugar, sodium and saturated fat on our health — from our brain health to heart health to links to cancers and more. The costs to our health and our society are staggering as diet-related diseases drive skyrocketing health care costs in America.
Food is so much more than what's on our plates. It's the recipe passed down in your family for generations. It's the stories we share around the table, the celebrations that aren't complete without a certain dish, the meals that hold a family's whole history in them. Food is how we show love for each other — and knowing what is in it matters so much.
As someone who has long advocated for healthier communities and greater transparency in our food system, I believe people deserve to know what's in the food they feed their loved ones.
That's why I recently introduced the Food Labeling Modernization Act of 2026. This bill is the biggest food label overhaul in a decade. It lets us modernize food labels, improve ingredient disclosures, strengthen nutrition warnings, and give folks the transparency they need to make informed choices.
Parents trying to make the best decisions for their children, seniors managing health conditions, folks with celiac disease who can't consume gluten, and everyday people comparing products should not have to navigate confusing or incomplete information.
So just like I did in the summer of 2022, I'm asking you to join me speaking out for the transparency we all deserve. The food that brings us together shouldn't put our health at risk.
John, do you agree with me? If you do, add your name to our petition today.
With love and gratitude,
Cory
