Wednesday, September 2 Round Up: Get to know the new housing finance agency, NPH Conference tickets selling fast, affordable housing project spotlight & more!

👋 Getting to Know the Housing Development Finance Committee (HDFC)

[link removed] [[link removed]] Yesterday afternoon, NPH held a webinar welcoming Jonathan Klein, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Housing Development Finance Committee (HDFC) [[link removed]] , launched in July of this year. Jonathan shared an overview of the new agency and its role with attendees, and what the HDFC means for affordable housing developers and partners across California, engaging directly with NPH members regarding questions about the HDFC.

What is the Housing Development Finance Committee? As part of the new California Housing and Homelessness Agency, HDFC serves as California’s central body for the state’s multifamily affordable housing finance system by administering multifamily housing finance programs and coordinating funding resources across multiple state entities. The goal is to streamline the state’s developer-facing, multifamily affordable housing funding programs and improve the transparency of affordable housing policy, awards, and appeals decisions.

“My hope and expectation is that a year from now… we can say: this really is something that looks different, works better, works faster, and is more transparent ,“ Jonathan shared.

[link removed] [[link removed]] St. James CDC, the community development arm of St. James AME Zion Church, recently celebrated a groundbreaking for New Beginnings Village, a development that will provide five 264-square-foot units, each with its own bathroom, kitchen, appliances and living space, in the heart of North Central, a historically underserved and formerly redlined San Mateo neighborhood. The housing is reserved for young adults aging out of the foster care system — filling a critical gap for this community. Learn more about New Beginnings Residential Village here. [[link removed]]
