Speaker Mike Johnson is forcing a vote on a constitutional amendment to permanently cap the Supreme Court at nine justices.

I strongly oppose his amendment.

The Supreme Court’s current right-wing majority has repeatedly rolled back civil rights, weakened voting rights, and lost its moral authority as a guardian of the Constitution. Republicans want to ensure that Congress can never rebalance it.

They want to lock in a broken Court for generations. We cannot let them.

To restore an independent, nonpartisan Supreme Court, we must enact comprehensive reforms:

✅ Expand the Court from 9 to 13 justices

✅ Establish 18-year term limits

✅ Institute a binding code of ethics for Supreme Court justices

Mike Johnson can try to shield this Court from accountability. But I will keep fighting to restore its legitimacy and build a judiciary worthy of our democracy.
