We can see this fight coming from a mile away. And it’s a fight we can win.

Indiana map manipulators are potentially gearing up for another attempt at gerrymandering their congressional map, and here’s why:

Last year, several Republicans in the Indiana Senate — including the Republican Senate Leader — resisted extreme pressure from the White House and rejected a new gerrymander.

Since then, Trump has sought revenge against the Republicans who didn't toe the line. Many have lost their seats, and now the next Senate Leader — who “nearly single-handedly controls the fate of proposed new laws” — will be a Trump yes-man on redistricting.

But we saw how lawmakers responded to their constituents last time around, when Hoosiers made their voices heard against gerrymandering. That public pressure convinced a bipartisan majority to shut down an outrageous attempt at mid-decade map manipulation.

The fair maps movement won this fight before, and we can do it again  — the other side has made strides forward, and we can’t afford to wait to start fighting back. We need to elect strong advocates for democracy who believe power belongs to the people.
