Dear Friend,
We refuse to let the Trump administration turn Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments into strip mines and oil fields.
So we’re taking the Trump administration to court.
Here’s how Trump’s attacks on our national monuments have unfolded:
In July: The Trump administration illegally attacked Utah’s Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments, attempting to shrink their boundaries by over 90% to make room for coal and uranium mining, oil drilling, and offroad vehicles on these public lands.
One Day Later: A mining company had already staked multiple claims in areas cut out of the Bears Ears National Monument.
Today: Earthjustice is suing the Trump administration to restore both national monuments to their full size.
Trump’s attack does more than just threaten the wildlife and historic landscapes of Utah — it could set a precedent for similar attacks on national monuments across the country. But our response can set a precedent as well.
Help us fight back in court with a gift today, and show the Trump administration that when they break the law, we will see them in court.
|
|
The first Trump administration also tried to strip monument protections from Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments.
We swiftly filed suit on behalf of conservation groups challenging the administration’s illegal actions then, and we are doing the same thing now.
By protecting these lands from industry, we limit pollution that destroys our drinking water and climate-cooking emissions. We also preserve them so they can be used for recreation and conservation.
But when the Trump administration sells out our lands to its extractive industry allies, it is betraying tribes who have stewarded these lands for millennia and breaking a promise to future generations.
Let's be clear: Public lands belong to all of us. So it is up to all of us to defend them.
With your help, we will fight to defend our environmental laws and the wild places they protect. Donate today to help us hire more attorneys, file more lawsuits, and build a sustainable future for us all.
