As we gear up for our last 38 days of the
campaign, we have shifted gear to reach out to the voter to support
our candidates and party return to Parliament following the election
on 17 October. As you will already know, our team of
seven has increased to a party list of 21 amazing people from a range
of backgrounds, skills and ages as it focuses on succession as well as
the legacy of the party.
In this pānui, we also share a bit more about Heather Te
Au-Skipworth who also launched her Māori
Sports policy last week.
Cranking up our campaigns
You’ll see our billboards around the country and our teams have
worked hard to put them up, fix them and also help fix other parties
billboards too, because that’s how we roll. Now that we have changed
gears, you would have seen Debbie and Rawiri in a number of debates,
John continues to work hard in Tāmaki Makaurau and lead the country
with navigating COVID-19 wave two. Mariameno has been in Kaitaia and
Whangarei connecting with our people, Donna has been linking in with
the whānau in Hauraki, Heather was supporting the winning rugby team
in Te Araroa (just don’t mention that to Rawiri) and Tākuta continues
to work in Wellington and is gearing up for another Tiki Tour down
south.
In addition, our Party
list has been popular with a heap of whānau and Eru
Kapa-Kingi and Hana Tapiata have been hosting some of the Māori
Conversations recently. Jack McDonald from Te Tai Hauauru gave some
pearls during the Cannabis
referendum conversation highlights and Dr Huhana Hickey
delivered a number of ‘mic-drop’ statements on the End
of Life Choice referendum conversation.
Heather
Te Au-Skipworth mō Ikaroa-Rāwhiti
Heather
was raised in the Hawkes Bay and though she has a number of whakapapa
connections through both islands, home is Pakipaki. Heather is the
co-founder of Iron Māori which has helped transform so many lives
through the country and she was recognised for her efforts in Iron
Māori with a Queens Service Medal in 2014.
Iron Māori was set up in 2009 to tackle Māori health issues and has
grown to become the most popular half and quarter triathlon in New
Zealand. When you attend Iron Māori you get to appreciate the impact
it has at all levels and encouraging our people to be active is
phenomenal. This belief in our people trickles over to her work in
the Heath sector as Heather advocates for our people in her role on
the Hawkes Bay District Health Board too.
You can learn more about what drives Heather by listening to her interview
with RNZ in 2017 as well as her recent interview on the
NZ Herald on Local
Focus.
Call to action – Find 10 voters to support us
Keep up the great work, in your electorates and can you identify
the 10 voters that you will be encouraging to vote for our candidates
and the Māori Party.
Can you also ask friend to support us by donating
$25, $50, $100 or whatever you can afford to help us extend
the fight and achieve the goal of returning back to Parliament in
October.
Mihi nui ki a tātau katoa me ngā kaupapa e pīkauria ana e tātau
katoa. Hei tērā atu pānui oti te aro ki te Tokowhitu, ki a Tākuta
Ferris o Te Tai Tonga.
Ngā manaakitanga o te wā.
Nāku iti, nā
Che Wilson
