Happy Wellness Wednesday!
🔔 Class is officially back in session for students across the country. New room, new schedule, new classmates. That much change at once is hard, and it can take time to settle into the new routine. But the good news is preparing for something unfamiliar is a skill, and it is one you can build.
Special Olympics athletes are pros at this part. They compete in unfamiliar gyms, meet teammates for the first time, and adapt to a new schedule every season. Along the way, they have picked up habits that make walking into the unknown a little smoother.
We asked them what actually helps when starting something new. Consider this your study guide:
😴 Ease into a sleep schedule. Start shifting bedtime earlier about a week before the new routine starts so the first morning is not a shock.
🎒 Get things ready the night before. Pack your bag, set out your clothes, and put your shoes by the door.
🤝 Lean on your support team. Your family, friends, coaches, and teammates want you to do well. Let them know what would make things easier.
📅 Map out your week. Take a few minutes to look at the week ahead. Knowing the plan takes a lot of the nerves out of it.
🎯 Set one small goal. Maybe it’s learning three new names, trying one new thing or asking for help if you need it.
One more thing that makes a school year better: a school where everyone belongs.
That is what Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® are built for – creating environments where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and included both in school and in their communities.
