New report reveals potential £36 billion annual cost of climate change for London by 2050s
A new report has revealed that climate change could cost London up to £36 billion per year by the 2050s, unless further action is taken.
The Heat Ready London Technical Report, published jointly by London Councils and the Mayor of London, shows that extreme heat and the continued effects of climate change could dramatically increase damage costs for London's economy by the middle of the century.
The report provides detailed evidence to support Heat Ready London, the capital's first city-wide vision for adapting to rising temperatures. It examines the growing impact of heat on Londoners' health, homes, public services, infrastructure, and economy. It warns that, without further adaptation, climate change could generate annual damage costs of between £16 and £36 billion by the 2050s, depending on future levels of economic growth, potentially equivalent to 3% of London's economy.

StreetLink London Advice Line: rapid support for people at risk of rough sleeping
With homelessness and rough sleeping high on the agenda across London, services that can intervene quickly before people reach crisis point are more important than ever.
Delivered by St Mungo's, the StreetLink London Advice Line provides immediate advice, advocacy, and practical support to people who are sleeping rough or at imminent risk of doing so. Available across all London boroughs, the service helps people navigate their housing options, access emergency accommodation, reconnect with family or friends where appropriate, and secure specialist support for issues such as mental and physical health, domestic abuse, debt, benefits, and immigration.
What sets the service apart is its focus on rapid intervention. By responding quickly when someone is at risk of rough sleeping, StreetLink London helps prevent homelessness from escalating and reduces the likelihood of people becoming entrenched on the streets. Through swift assessments, tailored action plans, and targeted casework, the service works to resolve housing crises at the earliest possible stage and connect people to the support they need.
Recognising the importance of this preventative approach, London Councils has awarded £139,396 annually until 2030 through its grants programme to support the continued delivery of the StreetLink London Advice Line. The funding will help ensure vulnerable Londoners can access timely advice and expert support, preventing rough sleeping wherever possible and helping people move towards a safer and more stable future.

Richmond opens new school for children with special needs
A new school for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will open this month in Richmond upon Thames for the forthcoming academic year.
The new SEND centre has been built in Petersham as a satellite of the Clarendon School to help more children in the borough access specialist education closer to home.
The purpose-built facility has been designed to provide high-quality specialist education for up to 77 pupils with moderate learning difficulties and complex needs, including autism. It includes modern classrooms, specialist teaching and therapy spaces, a multi-purpose hall, improved outdoor areas, and facilities designed to support children to learn, develop, and build independence.
