John, did you see Mary Trump’s assessment of her Uncle Donald?

He is becoming “increasingly erratic, belligerent, and violent.”

Most people describing Donald don’t know him personally, but Mary does. She’s a clinical psychologist who grew up inside that family, and she’s describing a pattern she has watched her entire life.

She points to three things happening at once:

The upbringing that drives every decision he makes: In her grandfather’s house, being labeled a loser was, in Mary’s words, “essentially a death sentence, literally or metaphorically,” and Donald has spent his life running from that label.

The cognitive decline: Repeated cognitive assessments he can’t stop bragging about, and an inability to stay on topic or rein himself in. Mary has pointed out that Alzheimer’s runs in their family.

The escalation: What he says about the war in Iran, which Mary called “completely unhinged.” The impulsivity. The fact that he can’t stay awake unless someone is talking about him. Each of these is worse than it was a year ago.

There’s no point at which he will admit he is incapable of serving as President; his condition will only worsen. That’s why we’re sending this email today, and that’s why we are emphasizing the importance of the November elections.
