MAGA Republicans are preparing to rewrite the Constitution to protect the
captured and corrupt Supreme Court that keeps advancing their agenda.

The House could vote as soon as tomorrow on H.J.Res. 1, a proposed
constitutional amendment that would lock the Supreme Court at nine
justices and prevent a future Congress from expanding and rebalancing it.

The Constitution does not require nine justices. Congress has changed the
size of the Supreme Court repeatedly throughout our history.

But after a well-funded right-wing movement spent decades capturing the
judiciary and securing a 6-3 far-right majority, Republicans want to close
the door behind them. They want to prevent future voters, presidents, and
members of Congress from repairing the damage they have done.

This has nothing to do with protecting the Supreme Court’s independence.
It is about protecting the power of a far-right majority that has
overturned the constitutional right to abortion, gutted voting rights,
expanded access to deadly weapons, shielded Trump from criminal
accountability, and repeatedly removed limits on his power.

Now, the same MAGA movement benefiting from those decisions wants to write
its advantage into the Constitution.

Court beyond urgently needed reform. Add your name now and demand that the

A future pro-democracy Congress must retain the authority to expand the
Supreme Court under the next pro-democracy president. H.J.Res. 1 would
take that option away at precisely the moment when fundamental reform is
most urgently needed.

A constitutional amendment requires the support of two-thirds of the
House. Republicans should not receive a single pro-democracy vote. Members
of Congress need to hear immediately that their constituents expect them
to preserve our ability to reform the Supreme Court, not cement the power
of its far-right majority.
