More than 60,000 monkeys are used in inhumane experiments annually in the US. This number does not even include the animals used to breed future generations that will be exploited for research.

Throughout the country, monkeys are subjected to experiments in laboratories, often funded by the federal government. AAVS is campaigning to eliminate the use of monkeys in federally funded biomedical research, bringing us closer to our goal of eliminating the use of animals in science entirely. We support replacing experimentation on animals with cruelty-free alternatives such as organs-on-a-chip, which simulate human systems and organoids (small three-dimensional tissue models grown in the laboratory).

AAVS also works to ensure that monkeys released from labs receive the lifelong care they require at high-quality sanctuaries that provide all their needs. Every year we provide grants that help sanctuaries across the US and the world to care for rescued animals.
