Summerville's sweetest contest returns

Flowertown is about to get a whole lot sweeter. The week leading up to the 15th annual Sweet Tea Festival (in Downtown Summerville on Saturday, Sept. 19), the town will host the Hold My Tea Bar Crawl and Sweet Tea Cocktail Contest.

From Monday, Sept. 14 through Sunday, Sept. 20 a dozen local bars and restaurants will create their best sweet tea-inspired cocktails, and guests can vote for their favorite cocktail and play bar crawl bingo.

If you complete your bingo card, you'll score a free bar crawl shirt, while supplies last.

Development

A proposed mixed-use development on James Island, with a mini-golf course and retail space, received partial approval from the Design Review Board. Leaders say the office and parking garage portions of the Grimball Road development needed tweaks before they can move forward. (WCSC)

The City of Charleston is inviting folks from the Westside Neighborhood to help paint a community mural at the Mitchell Playground pedestrian bridge. The project is part of the city's Love Your Block program
