As a former teacher, I know this time of year is as exciting as it is nerve-wracking, full of new opportunities and new challenges. So happy first day of school!

 

With the Legislature back in session to work on the budget, we have an opportunity to make a once-in-a-generation investment in our students, to uphold hard-earned teacher pensions, and improve outcomes for kids across our state. These are the things I’m fighting for every day because I believe we can be a state that puts our kids before profits. I believe in a future where outstanding literacy scores are the norm, where every school has a library, and where every student can access a world-class public education. 

 

Now more than ever we have a chance to invest in the potential of every Michigan student. And I'm excited to take on this fight for them. 

 

There’s so much at stake here, and our kids and teachers deserve to go into the school year knowing we have their backs.
