Last Friday, we officially launched our grassroots campaign to establish an independent Oversight Board and create true public transparency over our Sheriff’s Department. That very same day, the Sheriff’s Office sent a newsletter claiming that an Oversight Board would be an unnecessary cost.


The SF Sheriff’s Department spent over $21.5 million last year in overtime alone, while our measure would cost less than $3 million to overhaul decades of misconduct, create comprehensive review processes into all employee misconduct, and investigate the death of any individual in the Sheriff's custody.
