From jalapenos, to blueberries, to eggs and soft cheeses, Americans across the country are wondering how safe their groceries really are after more than 150 food recalls have been issued just this year. This is on top of exploding food prices that have hit working families where it hurts the most: their pocketbooks.
The Trump administration’s incompetence, recklessness, and corruption is clearly to blame. Because whether it’s cyclospora, salmonella, or E. coli, what all of these outbreaks have in common is a food system that is no longer dependable.

This scale of crisis is avoidable when our government values expert knowledge and takes action to protect our communities. Unsurprisingly, the Trump administration has done neither of these things.
Since Trump took office again in 2025, he and Secretary of Health and Human Services RFK Jr. have made our system for finding and stopping outbreaks weaker by cutting budgets and firing experts, as well as delaying a law that could have prevented this outbreak to please his friends at Taylor Farms (who donated $1 million to a MAGA super PAC just 6 days later).1
Our government has the power to make our food both safe and affordable. But while we’ve spent months wondering if we can trust the food that keeps eating up more and more of our paycheck, Trump has continued to spend our taxpayer money cozying up to billionaires, building a ridiculous ballroom, and waging a war in Iran. We deserve a government that puts our health and safety above vanity projects and corporate profits.
