An undercover officer had just purchased narcotics from a suspect. As
officers moved in to make the arrest, the suspect jumped on a motorized scooter
and fled.

Duran had only moments to react.

He didn't reach for his firearm.

He didn't use deadly force.

Instead, he grabbed a nearby cooler and threw it into the suspect's path to
stop him.

The suspect crashed and later died from his injuries.

Now, Sgt. Duran has been convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to prison.

And he is fighting to clear his name through the appeals process.

This appeal is his only chance to avoid spending the next 9 years behind bars
with the very criminals he spent his career putting away.
