This week, my House colleagues and I are back in Washington after wrapping up our August District Work Period. As you may know, the House’s current session calendar leaves just 16 days for legislative work before November’s midterm elections. While many lawmakers are eager to cut this period even shorter in order to attend fundraisers and hit the campaign trail, my conservative colleagues and I have a different idea for Congress: Pedal down! Our Republican trifecta has delivered on key promises, such as passing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act to secure historic tax cuts for hardworking families. Yet there is much more work to accomplish before the midterms. For example, we’re still waiting on the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act, a commonsense election integrity bill that would require photo ID to vote, require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote, and direct states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls. Yet the House isn’t off the hook simply because we’ve passed the SAVE America Act multiple times and attached it to must-pass pieces of legislation, such as this year’s National Defense Authorization Act. From passing the remaining Fiscal Year 2027 appropriations bills to holding activist judges accountable, there is a wide-ranging list of legislative items for the House to tackle in the weeks ahead. However, the #1 priority must be codifying President Trump’s border security policies. Folks, maintaining our Republican trifecta is not guaranteed. Therefore, Congress cannot risk losing the opportunity to make strong border security policies permanent for future generations. We’ve already seen what a future Democrat Administration would do if given the chance. The Biden-Harris Administration’s intentional illegal invasion nearly broke our great nation. While President Trump successfully shut down the border and continues mass deportation operations, all of this work to put Americans First could be reversed with the stroke of a Democrat President’s pen. To put this in perspective, let’s look at Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) recent work here in Georgia. Earlier this month, ICE arrested more than 1,200 illegal aliens in the Atlanta area, including 720 who had been convicted of or charged with crimes. Right here in the Ninth District, ICE recently arrested an illegal and convicted drug trafficker after he shipped more than 275 pounds of methamphetamine to Gainesville. He had previously been deported from the United States twice. If Congress fails to codify the Trump Administration’s border security policies, a future Democrat White House could simply cease ICE’s deportations here in the Ninth District, throughout Georgia, and across the entire nation while simultaneously flooding communities with illegals — including dangerous criminals. That’s why Congress’s mindset must be pedal down on delivering on our America First promises. Failure is not an option. Please know that I’m fighting to deliver additional wins to you and your family through my work in Washington, including codifying President Trump’s border security agenda. After all, Northeast Georgians deserve safe and secure communities for generations to come. |
