Time’s running out before voters begin casting ballots, and that means you’re probably seeing a LOT of updates about races in your state and beyond.
Today, we wanted to take a minute to break down some of the most competitive governors’ races we’re watching – and explain why investing in the DGA [ [link removed] ] is one of the most strategic decisions you can make right now. Take a look:
Arizona
Democratic governor Katie Hobbs is up against Republican Congressman Andy Biggs, and recent polling shows Hobbs ahead by just one point.
Races in Arizona often come down to the wire, and this is sure to be no different. When Gov. Hobbs won in 2022, this was the closest race for governor in the country, and then Arizona was the swing state that Trump won by the largest margin in 2024.
Gov. Hobbs has delivered over and over again for Arizona – focusing on lowering costs and eliminating more than $1 billion in medical debt for people in her state. Nevada
We have a real chance to flip the governor’s seat in Nevada, as Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford faces Republican governor Joe Lombardo in the toughest race for any Republican incumbent governor.
A recent poll showed a tied race despite Republicans spending tens of millions against AG Ford. The poll also showed that voters are frustrated with Lombardo’s refusal to stand up to Trump. That’s going to be a tough image to shed, given that Lombardo has even called Trump his “commanding officer.”
Lombardo’s proven over and over again that he’d rather cater to Trump than help the people who elected him. In just a few weeks, Nevadans will get their chance to replace him – and you can chip in to help Aaron Ford and the DGA here. [ [link removed] ]
Michigan
In Michigan, Democratic Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson faces two-time statewide loser John James.
As governor, Benson will tackle corruption, lower the costs of health care, housing, and energy, and stand up to Trump when he threatens Michigan families. Meanwhile, James has already sided with Trump and voted to raise costs and rip health care away from hundreds of thousands of people in his state.
At the moment, polling shows a single-digit race. But here’s the good news: Every candidate Trump has endorsed for statewide office in Michigan has LOST over the last decade. We look forward to ensuring the streak continues.
Wisconsin
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley just became the Democratic nominee in Wisconsin, and the latest polls show him narrowly leading his opponent, Republican Tom Tiffany, in this very competitive race.
But we can’t (and won’t) take anything for granted. Tiffany has already spent millions of dollars boosting his own campaign and now that the general election is underway, that spending could just be the tip of the iceberg. It’s up to us to make sure Crowley has the resources to fight back and reach voters in the final weeks before Election Day. You can help by splitting a contribution between his campaign and the DGA. Ohio
Dr. Amy Acton is in a strong position to become Ohio’s first Democratic governor in decades. Even a recent Fox News poll showed a two-point race between her and her opponent, failed presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
But winning this race is not going to be easy. While Dr. Acton is focused on making life more affordable for Ohioans, Ramaswamy and his allies are more focused on spreading attacks – spending millions blanketing Ohio televisions with misleading ads.
This race is winnable – but it’s going to require an all-hands-on-deck effort to ensure we flip this seat and prevent Ramaswamy from wreaking havoc in Ohio. Contribute here to help make sure we win here and throughout the country. [ [link removed] ]
Iowa
Democrat Rob Sand has turned the Iowa governor’s race into a toss-up.
Sand will have to convince a significant portion of Republicans or independents to win the governorship, but as Iowans are hurting from a decade of one party rule and extreme attacks on public education, poll after poll shows that voters are ready to make a change.
Meanwhile, Sand’s opponent, Republican Zach Lahn, has made headlines for spending most of his time in Kansas. Another poll shows that 76% of respondents say it’s important to them to have a governor who has spent most of their adult life in Iowa. That could be a big problem for Lahn come November.

Georgia
Political forecasters are calling the Georgia governor’s race a toss-up, and for good reason.
Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms has a track record of helping Georgians: As Mayor of Atlanta, she attracted major employers and new jobs to the state, delivered a historic raise for police officers and firefighters, and secured significant investments that gave small businesses a boost.
Perhaps that’s why she’s led in several recent polls. But Georgia is one of the most competitive states in the country and we haven’t elected a Democratic governor here in decades. Meanwhile her opponent, Rick Jackson, seems more focused on Trump than on the people of his state, saying that he wants to be Trump’s favorite governor and that he doesn’t disagree with Trump on anything. Here at the DGA, it’s our job to ensure the Democrats in these races – and beyond – have the resources they’ll need to break through Republicans’ attacks and ensure their message reaches undecided voters in these final weeks.
