Hi there,
This week, on the six month anniversary of Trump’s disastrous, reckless war with Iran, I escalated my calls for Pete Hegseth to resign and for an immediate end to this conflict.
This Patriot Weekly includes some last-minute reminders.
First, the deadlines for my Summer Reading Challenge and my America 250 Essay Challenge for high schoolers are at midnight tonight. If your child has completed either challenge, please make sure to submit their work today.
Second, I will be holding an affordability town hall at 5:30pm ET tonight. If you want to share your concerns with me and my office as we head back to Washington, I hope you’ll join us!

What’s going on
The Hudson Valley
What I’m doing: Today is the final day for Hudson Valley students to complete my Second Annual Summer Reading Challenge and America 250 Essay Contest. Students in grades K-8 who read five or more books this summer will receive a Congressional Certificate of Achievement. High school students can submit an essay reflecting on America’s history, our democracy, and their hopes for our country’s future.
I started these challenges because I want to recognize the hard work of Hudson Valley students and keep young people engaged with reading, learning, and our democracy. As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, I especially want to hear from the next generation about what this country means to them and what they want its future to look like. Every essay participant will receive a Congressional Certificate, and the winner will be invited to meet with me and tour the Capitol in Washington.
What you can do: If your child has read five or more books this summer, or if your high school student has completed an America 250 essay, please make sure to submit it today by clicking on one of the two links below.
I’m looking forward to seeing everything our Hudson Valley students have accomplished this summer!
Washington
What I’m doing: Congress is preparing to return to Washington after the August recess, and there is a lot of work waiting for us. Hudson Valley families are still being squeezed by rising costs, from groceries and housing to gas, while Trump’s reckless war with Iran and chaotic tariffs continue to make things more expensive.
I pick my fights in Washington based on what people in the Hudson Valley actually need. That’s why I’m holding an affordability telephone town hall TONIGHT at 5:30pm ET. I want to hear directly from you about what you and your family are dealing with, what you need from Congress, and what I should be fighting for when we return. This conversation will be incredibly important in shaping my priorities for the fall session, so if you have something that’s on your mind you want me to address, please join me.
What you can do: Please join me tonight at 5:30pm ET and raise the issues that matter most to you and your family. You can call (833) 980-3644 or tune in online at [link removed]. I hope to hear from you.
Going on offense
I’m sad to say that this week marks six months since Donald Trump launched his reckless, illegal war with Iran. Trump promised this would take “four to five weeks.” But now, six months later, 18 brave American servicemembers have been killed, at least 750 more have been wounded, and not a single one of the administration’s objectives has been achieved.
As a former Army Intelligence officer, it’s clear to me that we are not winning this war, and that the situation has devolved into a complete fiasco. Trump and Pete Hegseth lied about the timeline, lied about the cost, failed to protect our troops, and left hardworking Americans to foot the bill for a war they never wanted in the first place. With the cost of this war already exceeding $100 billion, they continue to double down with no strategy for victory and no plan to bring our servicemembers home.
I refuse to accept Trump and Hegseth’s failures. From the beginning, I’ve led the fight in Congress to end this disastrous war, introduced the No Funds for Iran War Act to stop Trump from spending another dime on this illegal conflict without congressional authorization, and confronted Hegseth directly over his catastrophic failure to protect six servicemembers who were killed at Port Shuaiba. I will keep fighting with everything I have to end this war, bring our troops home, and hold those responsible accountable.
I’m escalating my calls for Pete Hegseth to resign, but I need your help to up the pressure. Hegseth has failed our troops, failed the American people, and proven again and again that he is unfit to lead the Department of Defense. Please add your name to my petition to FIRE HEGSETH today.
Keep up the fight, and as always, thank you for reading!
In Solidarity,
Pat
