FIRST: Derek Schmidt ran for State Senate during Y2K, but 24 years later he ran for Congress as a consolation for losing the Governor’s race in 2022. (He even lost in this congressional district during that race). In the years in between, he also considered or ran for Attorney General, the U.S. Senate, and Secretary of State to pad his resume and stay in power.
THEN: In Congress, Schmidt has continued to put his party bosses, now Mike Johnson and Donald Trump, first, voting in lockstep with Trump’s agenda, even when it meant betraying Kansans. He's continued to build a record of failing to show up and fulfill his promises to lower costs and lower the debt.
NOW: This is the most flippable district in Kansas since the 2018 midterms, and Don Coover, the Democratic nominee, is within striking distance.
But we can't take this moment for granted, because Schmidt won’t just allow his political career to end. With corporate PACs and other special interests backing his campaign, we need to be ready for his major spending.
Will you pitch in $25 before our deadline today to ensure this is Derek Schmidt’s last term and help elect Don, a rancher, veterinarian, and Army veteran, who is ready to flip this seat?
