Good morning!
With summer in the rearview mirror, Texas Scorecard is growing, as I announced a couple weeks back. That’s the focus of today’s Texas Minute.

But first... is there a grassroots activist who inspires you? Someone who jumps in to serve the community, fighting for liberty? Nominate [[link removed]] them to receive the Conservative Leader Award! Nominations are open [[link removed]] through Oct. 5. Awardees will be announced and presented with engraved cavalry swords at the Conservative Leaders Gala on Dec. 5, 2020. (Time, location, and all the details [[link removed]] are here [[link removed]].)
Speaking of the Conservative Leaders Gala: Early Bird general admission tickets are on sale now [[link removed]]! Prices start going up on next month. Starting late last week Texas Scorecard is now operating under the auspices of the non-profit entity known as ScorecardMedia. Everything you’ve loved about our work will be getting bigger and better.
Someone is always keeping score; we think it ought to be the citizens.
Texas Scorecard is expanding the set of issues we cover, but still focusing on helping citizens understand how they can exert their influence over their government. Our audience is not the Capitol culture – the legislators, politicians, their staffs under the Dome, or their masters in the lobby. Our audience are those citizens who want to see liberty expanded, the regulatory state scaled back, and government shrunk.
Texas Scorecard is expanding the voices you’ll be hearing from – figuratively and literally. On Wednesday, longtime policy analyst Bill Peacock will bring his podcast The Liberty Cafe to Texas Scorecard! (I also encourage you to check out his writings at [[link removed]].)
The Liberty Cafe covers a wide range of topics – featuring facts and data the establishment would rather you didn’t know, and insightful interviews on the intersection of faith, policy, and culture. We have more podcasts launching... keep up with them on the podcast section [[link removed]] of TexasScorecard.com [[link removed]].
Texas Scorecard is hiring! We are looking for a full-time administrative assistant to work in our brand new headquarters in central Texas. (We began moving in last week!)
Speaking of the new central Texas headquarters... We’re also looking for someone with technical experience in the audio-visual production arts to manage the new and expanded 1836 Studios.
Next week we will begin taking applications for the Texas Scorecard Fellowship. More information will be available soon. This immersive study program for individuals (aged 18-25) was delayed due to the Chinese coronavirus. The fellowship will run from early December through the end of May. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to cover the 2021 legislative session, and learn about the conservative grassroots movement. A stipend will be provided.
At Texas Scorecard our promise is to be:
Never personal. While it is important to be passionate about public policy, we must not take the failure of politicians to act responsibly as a personal slight. Nor can we allow ourselves the luxury of thinking elections, legislative sessions, or even specific reforms, are the result of our personal involvement. It’s not about us!
Always trustworthy, with the facts in context. Politicians are adept at lying with the facts, by taking their record out of context. Our mission is to keep the facts in context, arming citizens with knowledge so they can impose themselves on the politicians.
Relentlessly pro-citizen, unabashedly pro-liberty. There is right and wrong; just like an umpire who calls balls and strikes, we are unabashedly pro-citizen and most assuredly pro-liberty. That’s how we view the world, without any apology.
Pursuing our heritage of self-governance. America, and Texas, were born from the belief that the citizens can govern themselves. As we have witnessed in recent months, abusive and oppressive power comes as readily from city halls and school boards as from deep-state regulatory agencies in Washington. Government must be limited so citizens can be free.
Inspiring, without venting. It’s not enough to be angry; things must be accomplished. Our desire is to help our fellow citizens move from being consumers of information to influencers in their communities. Number of the Day
56
Number of days until the General Election.

“There is a certain enthusiasm in liberty, that makes human nature rise above itself, in acts of bravery and heroism.”
